The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for a reduction in the salaries of political office holders in the country.

The NLC president, Ayuba Wabba, speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, February 4, at a press briefing, said political office holders in Nigeria are being overpaid.

Wabba stated that the salaries of the Nigerian political elite are much higher than any other in the world.
Meanwhile, the Sokoto state government has reportedly joined the list of the few states that have approved the full implementation of the N30,000 national new minimum wage.

Leadership newspaper reports that Isah Bajini Galadanci who is the state’s commissioner for information disclosed this. The payment will start by the end of the month of January, the commissioner added.

Frontline news noted that social media users are already congratulating the workers in Sokoto state followed the government’s announcement.

Meanwhile, the Rivers state government has denied media reports making rounds that it sealed the secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state over issues relating to minimum wage.

George-Kelly, D.A, the special adviser, special projects and head bureau for special projects in a statement made available to Legit.ng on Monday, February 3, said the report was false and an attempt to mislead the public

It was earlier reported that the chairman of NLC in Rivers state Beatrice Itubo, confirmed that on Sunday, February 2, the secretariat was sealed off by Rivers government at 9pm
